PAOLO BENEDETTI

Dancer, Acrobat, Choreographer

His continuous research on movement and the contamination from different areas, allowed him to create the language of AcroPhysicalTheatre, focusing his research on the contamination between physical and acrobatic movement and contemporary dance, recovering the most instinctive and functional part of the movement.

Creator and Artistic Director of tha APT Project, which branches into APT PROJECT (Section dedicate to the realization of Production, Events, Shooting, Short Film) and APT PROGRAM (Section focused on the training of the comtemporary performer offering a range of Programs: ResidenzaZERO – APT Intensive Program – ZERO Young Dancers – EMPTY BOX).

As a dancer, he arrived in Kataklò in 2007 and became part of the Company Cast until 2011. He stood out as a performer for the sensitivity, the interpretation ability and acrobatic technique, all qualities that made him the protagonist of some solos with great emotional impact.

His talent for artistic gymnastics allowed him to play competitive activity until the 20 years old.

He officially made his debut as a choreographer for Kataklò Athletic Dance Theater in the show “Puzzle” with his first two works: “La Fabbrica del Cioccolato” and “Wild side”.

From 2010 to 2014 he was Assistant Director, Training Manager and Teacher for Kataklò Academy Giulia Staccioli at Susanna Beltrami’s DANCEHAUS.

From 2012 to 2014 he was Giulia Staccioli’s Assistant Choreographer, giving to Kataklò project his creativity and formative skills, contributing to the creation of new choreographic projects and to the birth of a young cast.

He is Teacher in contemporary acrobatics, floorwork, physical contact and acrobatics applied to stage props. He teaches in prestigious dance academies throughout Italy.

From 2011 to 2013 he was Teacher in acrobatics applied to dance and stage movement for Kataklò Academy at the Accademia Musical&Danza of Parma directed by Francesco Frola and Lucia Giuffrida.

In 2013, in collaboration with Giulia Staccioli, he contributed to the choreographic creations of the Cappellini/Lanotte ice-skating couple in preparation for the 2014 Olympics.

From 2015 to 2017 he collaborated as a trainer with I.D.A. International Dance Association holding AcroPhysicalTheatre seminars aimed at the training of dance teachers.

From 2015 to 2016 he collaborated as a teacher in movement technique and acrobatics applied to the scenic movement with the “Alessandra Galante Garrone” Theatre School directed by Claudia Busi in Bologna.

Since 2016 he has been a Professor of the Professional Initiation Course MP3 Project directed by Michele Pogliani.

From 2016 to 2020 he is also Professor of Contemporary Acrobatics for the S.P.I.D. of Milan.

From 2020 to 2022 he has a Professor in Acrofloorwork and Body Work for the M.A.S. Music,Arts&Show Accademy of Milan, directed by Daniela Borghini.

Since 2022 he has been a teacher of AcroFloorwork, Body Work and AcroPhysicalTheatre for the TAM Beginning and Professional Improvement Course at the Ukrainian Academy of Ballet from Milan.

Since 2022 he has been Professor of AcroPhysicalTheatre for the OSMOSI Project of Perugia directed by Massimiliano Burini, director of the OcchiSulMondo Company.

ARTISTIC TRAINING

Born as a gymnast, for 11 years he attended competitions in the national area. Graduated in Sport Motor Sciences (Faculty of Medicine and Surgery), Federal Instructor F.G.I. (Italian Gymnastics Federation) and F.I.T.E. (Trampoline Elastic Italian Federation), qualifications which brought him to take part to a World Championship (Sun City-South Africa, 2000)and an European Championship (Eindhoven, 2001).

His instinct and desire to improve himself brought him closer to contemporary dance, coming into contact with choreographers such as Ido Batash, Chisato Ohno, Erion Kruja, remaining deeply influenced by German Jauregui Allue which allowed him to deepen Wim Vandekeybus language.

This strict training in teaching, brought him to develop and disseminate the APT method in various fields, from dance and theatre to extreme sports environments (snowboarding, parkour,  the Italian Federation of Equestrian Vaulting, etc).

He took part to 5 Kataklò productions (Livingston, Up, Anthology, Play, and Love Machines) thanks to which he played solos and leading roles during the company worldwide tours.

He took the stage of the most prestigious international theatres, among which as the Greek Theatre of Taormina, the Pekin University Hall for the 2008 Beijing Olympics of Culture, the Rome Music Auditorium, the Luxor Theatre of Rotterdam, the Opera House of Rio de Janeiro, the Teatro Nacional of Brasilia, the Teatro Alfa of San Paolo.

He also took part to several major festivals including the “Macau Arts Festival” in Macao (2007), the “Kulturpur Festival” in Frankfurt (2007), the “Mimos Festival” in Périgueux (2007) and the “Fringe Festival” in Edinburgh (2009).
